Outreach & Education

The Outreach and Education Core includes the divisions of University-Community Collaborations, Community Mobilization, Communication and Dissemination, Training and Mentoring, and Technical Assistance. At the larger system level, we are working with state and local government agencies and policy makers, as well as prevention service providers and the grass roots community, to support the development of effective prevention policy, to facilitate the design and articulation of comprehensive community prevention plans, to strengthen the community’s access to data and information that they can use to support planning and advocacy, and to support prevention service providers in accessing and implementing best practices from prevention science. Our goals are to: (a) continue to strengthen linkages among policy makers, service providers, community residents, and researchers in refining and implementing community prevention plans; (b) support increased capacity within the community and nonprofit sectors for the effective use of research and data; (c) pilot and evaluate the effectiveness of community-focused strategies; and (d) strengthen and support the voice of the community, including community youth, in informing the research agenda of our center and local policy.
